Vaccination Successful
Starting in March of 2020, the Coronavirus broke loose in the world, especially in the United States. Schools across the world closed, businesses shutdown, and everyone started to stay home and go on lockdown. Kids had to finish the year with online classes and zoom calls and when you did go out, you were supposed to socially distance and wear masks. Many didn’t get to see their family and friends, they didn’t get to go on vacations, and their lives were completely put on hold for months. A few months later, businesses started to open, kids were going back to in person school, people were starting to go back to work, and lockdown and mask mandates were starting to go away. It was not the smartest decision because COVID started to spread more and more, and it still is but the people who followed COVID protocols did not go back to school or work, and they still stayed home and wore masks when they did go out.
A Junior at North Port High School, Jordan Roche was one of those people. She and her family stayed safe during the pandemic and even though it was hard for her, she knew she did the right thing. Her and her brother attended online school while through the screen was their classmates having fun and being able to learn in person. It was very hard for Jordan because she loves hanging out with her friends and going places but in order to keep herself and her family safe, she had to stay home. She was very blessed to have it the way she did though. She had a safe home where she could do her schoolwork and she could do some things to keep her busy like playing her favorite video game, Red Dead Redemption 2. The only thing her parents would let her do is volunteer at Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium which she loved and was so blessed to be able to even do that.
Still, during this time, she was stressed so bad. Jordan knew that her friends and family were living their best lives while she was stuck at home for over a year and it was hard, but she had hope. Doctors around the world were trying to find a vaccine for COVID, and they did. Her family members including her parents, got vaccinated so now it was just her turn. That hope and that faith she had stuck with her, and she is glad it did. On April 20, 2021, her mom came into her room crying with tears of joy while telling Jordan she has her first does of the COVID vaccine the next day. Jordan was so happy, and the first dose went great, she didn’t have any symptoms other than a sore arm. She was so happy and relieved that she can now be safe and in just a few weeks be able to see her family and friends. On May 12, 2021, she gets her second dose of the vaccine and just two weeks later, her mom is allowing her to see her friends and family again. Jordan could not be happier. It does pay off to have faith.
