The Impacts of Covid-19

An issue that is very well known today and that has impacted lots and lots of people throughout the world would be Covid. The official name for Covid is coronavirus disease 2019, or abbreviated as COVID-19. By definition, Covid is an acute respiratory illness in humans and is capable of producing severe symptoms and in some cases death, especially in older people and those with underlying health conditions. While having underlying medical issues may be one of the reasons you may catch Covid, the virus is also thought to spread mainly between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet) through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.

Covid has taken many lives and keeps taking lives, but people started to take precautions to prevent this. The virus has completely turned the world upside down, it affects the workplace, kids’ education, and even shopping in stores has changed. Although we are allowed to still go to these places now, there are certain things that we had to adjust to such as wearing masks at school, or even having the option of staying home and zooming into a class in order to learn. Obviously, no one wants to live like this for the rest of their lives, so like any virus, scientists find a way to make a vaccine. Some of these include, Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen. All the different types of vaccines have their own thing about them varying from the age limit to how many shots you would need to take.

Looking through a student’s perspective, your whole world changes and you are forced to learn to adapt to the new environment. Some things may be harder than others, for example, sports change. One girl who is a student-athlete is Molly Bolton. She just got her Covid vaccine, the Pfizer kind. Like most of the vaccines, you need to get two shots, Molly’s second shot being on June 3rd.  Molly continues to do great in both school and soccer, this proves that the vaccine had no effect on her life. The only thing that affected her was that she was a part of the solution to fighting covid and getting back to a normal life.
