Mrs. King Nominated for Administrator of The Year Award
August 20, 2021
Saturday morning on August 14th, Miss King received an email from the Florida Art Education Association that she had been nominated for the Administrator of the Year award. She was in complete shock and did not hit her right away. King had been nominated by Ms. DuBois, an Art teacher at North Port High School, as the person who nominated Mrs. King for the award. “She’s been such an integral part of the VPA program,” She stated. “She is the most supportive administrator I’ve ever had.” The key factor for nominating her was the fact that she was the one to really build the program. For 20 years, Miss King has deliberately been urging people at the district level, even at the state level, to really make North Port High a place for students to release their artistic talents. Moreover, she believes the VPA program will be able to reach all types of students despite their backgrounds. King mentions that in the arts program, the playing field is levelled, and not about how brilliant anyone is.
With the most active support for the VPA program, Mrs. King continues to build the program to its peak with future plans. “We are getting something called adjuncts,” She emphasized. “They are adjunct teachers that are going to come into those classrooms and they’re going to skill build and bring out the best skills in students.” These teachers will cover various parts of the VPA program such as orchestra, choir, theatre, and dance. Alongside the new adjunct teachers, King hopes to refurbish unused parts of the school buildings and add potentially new rooms and spaces. In the end, Mrs. King has devoted her time to the students, teachers, and staff at North Port High, and totally deserves the nomination for Administrator of the Year!
