With many schools in Florida opening in full effect the number of COVID-19 cases have skyrocketed. Governor Ron DeSantis has run into a lot of trouble with the court regarding mandating masks. DeSantis ruled that a student wearing a mask should be up to the parents and not the schools. On August 27, 2021, Leon County Circuit Judge John C. Cooper: however, believes that the governor overstepped, and his order was unconstitutional. Hence banning mask mandating was blocked.

Sarasota County Schools started mandating their masks policy on August 30, 2021, where students are required to always keep a mask on them during the school day. The aim is to get the number of COVID-19 cases reduced to below 8% for three consecutive school days. The average positive rates for August 30, 2021, were 13.43%, while August 26, it was 15.42%. So there has already been a decrease in positivity rates since mask mandating has started.
