Anime Club Narrative

Anime Club takes place in 8214 in Ms. Dugan’s room after school from 2:15 to 3:30. This is a new club this year, as students asked Ms. Dugan about the start of an anime club. “I had probably like 25 students ask me throughout the first day of school if there would ever be an anime club,” Ms. Dugan said, “I said, ‘I don’t know, I’m not in charge of that,’ and then over the course of the first week of school, there was an overwhelming amount of interest in it, so I figured, ‘why not start the club?’’ Anime club is a stand-alone club and was made possible by student interest as well as Ms. Dugan’s enjoyment of anime.

The Anime club meeting on September 8th, 2021, took place in Ms. Dugan’s room after school from 2:15 to 3:30pm. The club began with Ms. Dugan passing out slips that need a signature release for members to watch and discuss anime at the meetings. Then, Ms. Dugan explained meeting was supposed to be dedicated to voting for president, vice president, and secretary of the club. Having a presentation is not necessary, and anyone can run for these positions. Afterwards, everyone was given an “All About Me” paper which was anime related and contained information about favorite anime/characters, least favorite characters/anime, currently watching, animes watched, and more.  After everyone was done, members were split into groups of 5 to discuss their information. After 15 minutes, people rotated and were introduced to other members, allowing an opportunity to become familiar with everyone in the club and share interests. These groups rotated three times before the meeting was dismissed.

The next club meeting will be Wednesday, September 15th. Club board voting was scheduled to take place this meeting; however, due to running members not being present, the voting was pushed back and will take place on the 22nd of September. This will give new members and current members to prepare a speech, poster, or any presentation they can present to the club a chance to be nominated. Having a presentation is not necessary, and anyone can run for these positions. As the club continues to further grow over the course of the year, Ms. Dugan wants to develop a friendly, safe environment for the club members as the club plans to watch, discuss, write about, or draw anything that is anime related. “I want to create… a safe space for all students to exist and enjoy and share their love for anime,” said Ms. Dugan, “I want this to be a safe space for everyone to come and be themselves.”
