Good Morning Bobcats, today is Friday October 1, 2021

Hispanic Heritage month is here, and the World Languages department would like to share some amazing facts about the countries that composed the Hispanic speaking world. At the end of each presentation, we will announce a trivia question, and the first person to go to Sra. Duque with the correct answer during the transition from 2nd to 3rd period will get a price. Sra. Duque is in Building 7 room 207.

MEXICO

Mexico is the country below Texas.

The country motto is La Patria Es Primero (“The Homeland is First”)

The capital of Mexico is Mexico City which is currently the oldest city in North America and parts of the city are sinking at about 20 inches per year.

The currency used is pesos.

The climate is tropical with rainy and dry seasons.

Mexico has many historic areas and attractions like the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve. A popular sport there is soccer.

Two holidays celebrated in Mexico are Children’s day, on April 30th where children are celebrated and given gifts and Day of the Dead, on November 1st through 2nd where family members that have passed are celebrated by families.

Nicaragua

Nicaragua is a country located in central America with their capital being Managua.

The main language spoken in Nicaragua is Spanish.

The country’s population is about 6 million.

Nicaragua has coastline on both the North Sea and Atlantic Ocean.

Nicaragua’s main dishes are usually served with rice.

The currency is Nicaraguan Cordoba.

The most popular sport is baseball.

Nicaragua’s main attraction is their beaches and volcanos.

A big celebration in Hispanic countries is Semana Santa which is a holy week occurring in mid-April.

Nicaragua holds the oldest city in Central America (Leon Viejo).

Sports!

Softball weightlifting will begin on Tuesday October 12 and will be held every Tuesday and Thursday after school from 2:30 to 3:30. All paperwork must be turned in and you must be cleared in order to participate. Please see Coach Lowy in Portable 46 or Coach Martinez in 4-205 if you have any questions.

Girls soccer conditioning continues after school beginning Tuesday October 5th. Also, tryouts are October 18th and 19th  after school at Butler Park, and athletic paperwork needs to be turned in online to participate in conditioning AND to tryout.

Fall Sports Athletes have picture day on Tuesday October 5: Sports affected are: Boys Cross Country, all Swimmers, and all sideline cheerleaders. See your coach for details.

On Friday October 1, FCA the Fellowship of Christian Athletes will meet during all lunches. The location is room 1-203 in the Media Center. Pizza is provided.

Spirit Week!

Monday: Character Day and Volleyball match after school

Tuesday: Twin Day and Lip Sync after school

Wednesday: Class Color Day, Pep Rally during 2nd period, and Block Party after school

Thursday: Alphabet Day

Friday: Bobcat Pride Day and Homecoming game starts at 7:30pm.

Saturday: Homecoming Dance starts at 7pm.

After School!

After School tutoring in the media center is available from Monday through Thursday each week.

Key Club meets this Tuesday in room 7-113 after school. Academic Olympics meets every Tuesday in Mr. Foust’s room, 7-215.

On Wednesday after school, TSA the Technology Student Association meets in room 4-106 and Anime Club meets in room 8-214. TSA is also selling engraved NPHS logo cups. See Mr. Jakoby or a TSA officer for information.

ACT/SAT tutoring will happen every Thursday in room 8-205 from 2:30 – 4:00 for any student wanting to raise his or her test score or to obtain an FSA concordant score

Remember, if you want to ride the late bus Monday through Thursday, you must sign in at the media center by 2:30pm. Then, be at the PAC parking lot to catch the bus by 4:45pm.
