When it comes to inclusivity, NPHS Bobcats True Colors Club is here to embrace. The mission of this club is to promote safe spaces for their youth and celebrate each other of all their differences such as sexual orientation, gender identity, etc. December 16th, 2021, Club members reunited for a Christmas celebration as they have done for the past 11 years, not including 2021. During the Christmas party members decorated gingerbread cookies, ate pizza, drank tea, and had hot chocolate, which was supplied by the club room’s host and leader Mrs. Lord. Senior, Leny Ocasio first heard about true colors from his teacher Mrs. Lord and has attended ever since. “People do not judge you here.” Fellow senior, Cassity Snapp describes how her mental health has been affected by True Colors. “I think it’s been positive I enjoy the club I like doing things for the club it’s gotten me out of my shell a lot especially when it comes to LGBT topics.” 10th grader Zoey Varga adds to the topic of mental health. “It’s a good place to talk about the advantages and disadvantages of mental health that comes with being gay and we are ready to support those foundations with charities and events that we can go to support others with the same problems.” Zoey is going to be the next upcoming President of the club her junior year. Incoming freshman, Hailey Steven says, “I choose to join true colors because it’s kind of expresses who you are in like different ways.” The club meets every third Thursday of every month from 2:15-3:15 in room 7-209. Pride is a topic many students can struggle with and this gives them a place where they are accepted for who they are and who they love.
