YREADS at Peace River Elementary would love to partner with you this year as we look for volunteer reading mentors for our at-risk students & struggling readers. We are an afterschool reading remediation program that partners volunteers with small groups of 1-3 students to increase early literacy skills. This is a great opportunity for all students but is especially beneficial for those considering a future in education, social work, or nonprofits. Our program counts toward school volunteer hours and is an excellent opportunity to cheer on younger students and gain experience mentoring and teaching them.
All volunteers must complete a free background check through the YMCA (free) prior to volunteering. Volunteers will need 1 letter of recommendation from a teacher, coach, or employer (email to [email protected] or a hard copy given in person on the training day). Additionally, volunteers under age 18 will need a signed waiver by a parent/guardian.
