HOSA’s First Meeting Since Ian

Matthew Silva

HOSA held a meeting October 20th, 2022, this was their first meeting in 3 weeks due to Hurricane Ian. They talked about upcoming events and past canceled events that will no longer be occurring.

November 13th, HOSA will work with the Charlotte County Homeless Coalition to help with storm debris clean up. Designs of HOSA shirts were agreed upon the members, and were ordered before the hurricane, they were delayed and there is no set date on when the shirts are planned to arrive. Homeless Coalition will also start collecting toys Nov 14th – Dec 9th, for each donation from students on campus, they were supposed to receive community service hours, but instead they will earn hero points. A packet will need to be filled out if a member is planning on volunteering November 13th with the Homeless Coalition. At the block party, pens and pins were sold for 6 tickets each, or you could test your beanbag throwing skills for 4 tickets, if you made at least 2 beanbags, you could win a pin or pen. Other choice was removing 3 items from the operation game for 4 tickets, also for a chance to win a pin or a pen. They were also selling blood bags (blood bags but filled with Hawaiian Punch instead of blood) for 12 tickets each. They earned over $50 at the block party, which was some profit, better than no profit.

HOSA is always trying to help its community in as many ways as possible. Blood drives, toy drives, clothes drives, and many other ways of supporting the community.
