28 February Announcements

     Venice High School’s annual College Night, which will take place on Tuesday, February 28 from 5:30pm until 7:30pm. The evening is divided into two parts: 

  • There will be a short 30-40 minute presentation in the Venice HS gym (beginning at 5:30pm) from the University of Florida, Florida State University, University of Central Florida, University of South Florida, and Florida Southern College. They will share information regarding their most current admissions standards and how each school evaluates its applicants!
  • From 6:00pm until 7:30pm, we will have almost 70 colleges and universities in the Venice HS cafeteria to answer questions and provide helpful information to our students and their families.

     North Port High School’s College Fair will be held here on campus, Friday March 3 from 8-9:30 am.  We will be calling down 11th graders by alpha split into 40 minute increments. (More details to follow).  There will be approximately 70 Colleges and Universities in attendance in this incredible event. 

 

The Education Foundation is sponsoring an ACT prep workshop here at NPHS for just $40. There are 6 sessions and you must attend all 6. See Mrs. Halbert in the SSC or sign up on SchooLinks.

The dates are:

  • March 28 and 29
  • April 4 and 5
  • April 11 and 12

 

If you are interested in attending the US Coast Guard Academy, Cadet Emily Arpino will be on campus March 2nd, during all 3 lunch periods in the Student Success Center to answer any of your questions about the Academy.

 

SPORTS NEWS: 

     Congratulations to the boys track and field team, for taking 2nd place Friday night at the Riverview Ram invite, just 7 points out of first place.  Help leading the way was Evan Crane who along Jeremy Duque, Zakil Gallant, and Taggert Sabo won the 4x800m relay. Evan also came back later that night to win the 3200m run.  

  

     Also a congratulations to Brendon Soler for breaking the school record in the Javelin throw with his 3rd place finish. Great job to all the Bobcats who competed! 

  

     Four wrestlers advanced to the wrestling state tournament this weekend at the Silver Spurs Arena.  

  • at 182 lbs- Dominic Joyce is our regional champion. Dominic is a three-time region champion and defending state champion. 
  • at 195 lbs- Carmichael Gonzalez was the regional runner up. 
  • at 126 lbs- Austin Nappi took third 
  • at 125 lbs- Solana McCaughen was the regional runner up. 

  Please use the QR code to VOTE for our regional champion Dominic Joyce for the FHSAA Russ Mauger Award for exemplifying “sportsmanship, leadership, ethics, and integrity.” 

 

     Congratulations Boys Weightlifting: The team traveled to Venice last week and took 2nd place, defeating Cardinal Mooney and Booker High School.  The standout lifters were Eli ioffe, Jackson Motherway,  and Tyler Sar who placed 2nd in their weight division and our very own Gio Castro-Pridee remains undefeated this year with another 1st place in the 183-weight class.  Honorable mention was Osaiah Maldonado with a team high total of 590 pounds, with a 280-pound clean & jerk and a 315-pound bench press.

  2. Graduation Auditions if you want to speak/perform at graduation will be March 21 and 22 from 2:30-3:30 in the PAC.  Applications to Audition are due by March 9.  See the Senior Blackboard for more information

  • 4/29 Prom  
  • 5/4 Senior Awards Night – invitation only 
  • 5/10 Senior BBQ – 5-7 pm Cap and Gown pickup (mandatory as this is the only time to pick up)/yearbook pickup/honor tassels /Free food/DJ/raffles and more! (more details to follow) 
  • 5/19 Graduation Practice – mandatory 
  • 5/20 Graduation    

 

     VPA Seniors, apply to participate in the VPA Senior Showcase!  

  • Registration to perform in this event is only open to Seniors who are on track to graduate with VPA Endorsement. 
  • All solo performers and artist must be VPA Seniors
  • Group performances and art displays should be choreographed created or rehearsed by VPA a Senior but may have a couple VPA Underclassmen performing/assisting if needed. (The focus is to showcase our graduation seniors)
  • If students have questions about their VPA status qualifying, they should check with their Arts teacher to make sure. 
  • All applications will be confirmed by Arts staff. 
  • All Applications are due no later than March 10th    NO EXTENTIONS!
